As a fellow child of the 70s who is a year away from an MFA I want to say that I am a fan of your blog. We all know that the MFA is virtually useless, but it's nice to hear someone say it out loud!

Hi Gordon. I've been looking for this blog for a few years now. I really enjoy what you have to say about the post-MFA life. Several of the entries hit home for me. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Nice blog, Gordon! It's been so long since we graduated from our MFA program, that the community-feel that we once had feels lost. For a moment, you gave it back to me. Thanks, dude. Hope you're doing well in Brooklyn. Keep on with the writing.

Gordon-

I wrote a guest post. One in an occassional series, I hope. I would love to post it on the blog (it's definitely an After the MFA material), but I lost your email. Can you drop me a line?

Gordon. Thanks for your comment. If I were smart enough to figure out how to make a links sidebar with Movable Type, your blog would there.

I'm always curious about MFA's and MFA programs. About their value. I'm interested in trying to get into a program, (was rejected by Southwest Texas State, my alma mater) but at the same time don't know whether it'd be worthwhile. I'm also curious about the selection process. I've had some pretty vague answers from MFA program directors about why they select one person over another. It really seems awfully subjective and discouraging, worse than submitting to a journal or magazine and getting a story rejected, in some ways.

Hi Gordon- I work on the Boston Fiction Festival, and we are issuing a call for submissions.

Could I persuade you to post this? There is no submission fee.

thanks-

Armand

----------------

THE BOSTON FICTION FESTIVAL is accepting submissions for live reading at the second annual Festival in summer of 2007 and subsequent publication in our annual review. Submitting authors should expect to read at the Festival in order to receive payment. New England residents are strongly encouraged to submit, but all writers are welcome. Looking for lively, literary fiction. This year, we are also accepting Sci-Fi. Submissions should be 3-20 pages. Self-contained novel excerpts and multiple story subs are OK. Send submission, cover and SASE to: Attn: Armand Inezian, Faculty Building, Curry College 1071 Blue Hill Ave. Milton, MA 02186. For more info see: www.fictionfest.com

If you are from outside New England and do not expect to be attending the Festival, consider submitting to Hub, our new on-line journal. You can submit to Hub via email at: HubJournal@Gmail.com
