I'm in the unusual position of being a published fiction writer ( 1 novel & several stories) with a lot of experience & an undergraduate degree from Princeton in English Lit & creative writing. I got accepted into Northwestern's relatively new MCW program-- a master's in creative writing-- but haven't funds to attend. I have a new novel at my agents right now. Question is, how do I begin teaching without the MFA in case I don't ever the money? I live near Northwestern, in Evanston, Illinois.

Armand, Yes, I know your MFA is in writing and mine in the visual arts. I really just wanted to highlight a common reality that is shared by many MFA holders.
That being, we are generally unappreciated. However, I did not work for mine with the end goal of a career, fame and acceptance. It was for the sheer joy of learning. Thanks for your response and good luck to you.

Love your interview with the Buz. He's a terrific teacher and writer, and I've been meaning to review that story collection some time now. (Already reviewed "Bookshop"--it's wonderful.)

Hey Bradley-

I wish I could give you advice. I actually have an MFA in writing- not painting and design. If it makes you feel better, I have two jobs in addition to my writing.

Is there any good, positive, advice out there for a poor fellow who graduated in '98 with his MFA in Painting and Design and can't seem to land any sort of (directly) related job, career, etc. in his chosen field of endeavour. Meanwhile, he suffers from one low paying, non benefits, with too many aging and obstreperous volunteers, museum directorships to another. HELP!!

I just mentioned Carver in my personal statement. Now I'm tempted to remove the mention, or it will look like I shoehorned it in after googling Lewis Buzbee. How cruel of you.
